Juliane Kowalke

“Ich habe nichts zu sagen. Nur zu zeigen.” In Walter Benjamins Worten spiegelt sich ihre künstlerische Haltung wider, sich nicht selbst als Künstlerin inszenieren zu wollen. Ihr Blick schaut wach auf die Ränder vertrauter Wahrnehmungen. Er verbündet sich mit der Ambivalenz und der Absurdität, die dem Leben innewohnen. Im subtilen Aufnehmen des Unbeachteten in ihre Ästhetik erzeugt sie Spektren der Irritation, die sowohl empfindsam, als auch zutiefst humoristisch und nachdenklich anmuten. Hierbei koexistiert ihre Wertschätzung des Banalen mit der Schärfe ihrer Reflektion. Ihre künstlerischen Impulse wiegen sich im intuitiven Moment und ertasten eine angstfreie Annäherung an den Begriff des Scheiterns. Das Zweckfreie der Kunst erscheint hier als ein sinnlicher Freiraum, von dem aus sie sich orientiert und ihre Verbundenheit zum Leben teil.

Juliane Kowalke 1988 in Erfurt geboren, studierte an der Bauhaus Universität Weimar Freie Kunst. Ein Jahrzehnt war sie in der freien Szene Erfurts an der Konzeption und Durchführung von Ausstellungen, Konzerten und Festivals beteiligt,
betrieb den experimentellen Ausstellungsraum „Cellar Door“, baute das Projekthaus „Saline 34“ mit aus und entwickelte den Club „Frau Korte“.

Seit 2019 lebt sie in Leipzig.

Sie arbeitet mit den Medien Video, Fotografie, Collagen, Objekten & Gerüchen und arrangiert Musik & Geräusche mithilfe von Schallplatten,Tapes und  Machines. Als GLOBAL WARMING hat sie eine Radiosendung bei Noods Radio in Bristol, in der sie experimentierfreudig und humorvoll thematische Mixes präsentert. Ihre Diplomarbeit behandelte den Begriff des Scheiterns, so ist ihre künstlerische und musikalische Auseinandersetzung geprägt von Absurdem, Abseitigem und dem wenig Beachteten.

2019 nahm sie die Arbeit an ihrem Langzeitprojekt MUSEUM OF STRANGE ODEUR auf und lotet seitdem das Potential des Geruchs als künstlerisches Medium aus.

2020 wurde eine intensive dreimonatige Arbeitsphase an o.g. Projekt durch ein Arbeitsstipendium der Stadt Leipzig unterstützt.
Fortwährend konzipiert, respektive engagiert sie sich in transdisziplinären soziokulturellen Projekten.

“I have nothing to say. Only to refer.” Walter Benjamin’s words mirror her artistic attitude, not to stage herself as an artist. Her view carefully watches the edges of trusted perceptions, calling life’s ambivalence and absurdity her allies. Subtly including the unnoticed in her aesthetics, she creates spectres of irritation that appear to be both sensitive, humorous and pensive. Here, her appreciation towards the banal coexists with the sharpness of her reflection. Her artistic impulses sway in the intuitive moment, fumbling for a convergence with the notion of failure, which is free from fear. The purpose-free character of art, appears as a sensitive open space, allowing her to orientate and share her connectedness towards life.

Juliane Kowalke, born in Erfurt in 1988, studied fine art at the Bauhaus University Weimar. For a decade she was involved in the conception and implementation of exhibitions, concerts and festivals in the independent scene in Erfurt, ran the experimental exhibition space "Cellar Door", built up the project house "Saline 34" and developed the club "Frau Korte".

She has lived in Leipzig since 2019.

She works with video, photography, collages, objects & smells and arranges music & sounds using records, tapes and sample machines. As GLOBAL WARMING she runs a radio show on Noods Radio in Bristol, in which she presents thematic mixes in a humorous and experimental way. Her diploma thesis dealt with the concept of failure, so her artistic and musical exploration is characterized by the absurd, the out-of-the-way and the little noticed. In 2019 she started to work on her long-term project MUSEUM OF STRANGE ODEUR and has been exploring the potential of smell as an artistic medium ever since. In 2020, an intensive three-month work phase on the above project was supported by a work grant from the City of Leipzig.

She is constantly developing and engaging in transdisciplinary socio-cultural projects.
